Phone speaker crackling or silent: compare the audio path

Check output routing, volume and different audio sources before treating a sound problem as speaker damage.

Confirm where sound is playing

Disconnect headphones and Bluetooth audio if your goal is to inspect the phone speaker. Start at low volume. A silent phone with sound playing through a headset is an output-routing result, not a failed speaker.

Compare a test tone with ordinary speech

Run the speaker test, then play familiar speech at a comfortable level. Note whether crackling happens with both sources, one channel, only one app or only at high volume. A stereo channel is not necessarily a separate physical phone speaker.

If only one source sounds wrong

Repeat with another recording or app. Distortion already present in a file can be reproduced accurately by a working speaker. If a microphone recording sounds poor but familiar audio sounds clear, compare the input path using the microphone guide.

If the symptom repeats

Record the volume setting, output route and the kind of sound that triggers it. Compare with the phone’s own diagnostic tools if available. This browser test cannot measure calibrated loudness, impedance or frequency response, and it cannot identify an internal repair fault.

Avoid turning a check into a repair claim

Do not raise the volume to an uncomfortable level or insert objects into the grille. A tone test does not certify that moisture has been removed or that liquid damage is repaired. For a device exposed to liquid, follow the manufacturer’s care instructions rather than relying on a sound sweep.
